Writing an Essay - Structure Your Essay
Writing an Essay - Structure Your EssayA basic essay outline is one of the most essential tools that students need to write a great essay. It enables them to see the whole structure of the essay, the key sentences and topics, the paragraph structure, and a general flow. The format of an outline must be in accord with the type of writing that you will be doing. You must set the thesis statement at the beginning. This will contain the key points of the essay and give you a brief outline of the main ideas of the essay. It is important that you make the thesis statement clear so that your reader can follow what it is you are writing about. In the conclusion, you should relate your main points to the thesis statement.Your main points should then be linked to the outline. If you make it clear that this is a summary, you are not taking away the ideas that the outline covered. You can still link to the main points of the outline. After your main points, there are two more general paragraphs. T hese are known as conclusion and body paragraphs. They take up all of the space in the first page of the essay. They are the last paragraph, so they are the most important paragraph. The conclusion and body paragraph should be short and do not exceed one paragraph. If it is too long, you are likely to lose the reader's attention. There are times when a reader will have to go to the end of the essay to get a good look at your main point, so you need to make sure that you cover everything you can, or else you risk losing the reader. It is recommended that the outline be sent to a proof reader before you begin writing. They can give you an idea of how the outline may look once it is complete. They willalso tell you which words and phrases need to be removed to make the outline fit into your style guide.Writing an outline is not always easy, but you can do it if you set out with the right structure. Make sure that you are writing in accordance with the formatting guidelines so that it loo ks professional. Once you have completed an outline, you are well on your way to completing your assignment.
